A Distinctive Coma...StreetcredMusic, Pete Carma

dis·tinc·tive~
adjective: distinctive

characteristic of one person or thing, and so serving to distinguish it from others.

The topic of conversation on a trip to New York City about a year ago, as the vino was flowing, it was the cheap stuff, in a bar of no importance.

"If you were in a coma, could music help you OUT"...well I don't know if it would help me out but...

I know there are three voices I could hear that I would certainly respond to. Voices that will make my emotions, if you have any in a coma, respond to. They are truly the most distinctive to me::

Mary Travers

Mary Travers the unbelievable sound of  depth and protest of my youth. I Can never shake that sound that 'Rang Out' through the 1960's. Standing tall as a singer and artist and a civil rights giant.

Investigated by Nixon and the House Un American Activities Committee, never stopped her from speaking out.

   Video~~
They had a hammer, and used it.

Another voice I would hear and maybe respond to:: A guy who went from a tenor to a who knows what..but surrounded himself with the best musicians on the planet, and had the best arrangements written by the best at what they did, and recited the American Song Book as no other.

Francis Albert Sinatra

...he gave the audience what they clamored for, great music with class and respect.

Sinatra:: here with Count Basie/Quincy Jones....'Fly Me To...'

                                     *****************************************

Last and by no means least, If I really were in a coma, and this is a binding document here, this is the voice I want you to play~~Who else?? The Diva....Greta Panettieri

Me and Greta NYC, 2012

Climbing Fences: The Occupation Song, by Sonia Montez

One of my favorite New York City songstresses and people, Sonia Montez was sitting on a tune she wrote, and as events have unfolded recently, there is no need to wait it's time has come.

   'Climbing Fences' >>   Listen here!

The profound lyric::

Climbing Fences: The Occupation Song (Demo)
Words, Music, and everything else by Sonia Montez::

Dead night, Fire in the sky Stars are running shy
Ground bleeds in streams for you Early little love child
Bore the burden of the hate squad Someone watched as innocence left your eye
Climbing fences that tear you apart
How golden is our silence now? When they come in the middle of dead night
When there's nothing but fire in the darkened sky Stars run shy from the bullet fight
How the ground bleeds in streams of pain for you

Listen pretty sister
I got boys with toys to paint you red
I got silence now
When they come in the middle of dead night
When there's nothing but fire in the darkened sky
Stars run shy from the bullet fight
How the ground bleeds in streams of pain for you
You bleed as the world closes blinds
You scream as the pressure holds you tight
In this cage, you can't breathe
When all you need to be is free
When they come in the middle of dead night
When there's nothing but fire in the darkened sky
Stars run shy from the bullet fight
How the ground bleeds in streams of pain for you

StreetcredMusic, Introducing, Emilly Ben Ami

When I was a kid, going to public school in the Bronx, they taught us about the Statue of Liberty, and they said New York City was the melting pot of the world. As I grew up I realized that was a generalization, actually Brooklyn, was the melting pot, the other boroughs were side dishes.

One of the newest and brightest creators, to jump into the pot is a beautiful young woman from Israel,
Emilly Ben Ami.
Coming to New York City this January the coldest January, in decades, Emilly said, "I loved it".

Emilly Ben Ami,
Actress, singer, writer, Emilly is currently in rehearsal for 'Peer Gynt'. The production will be directed by Oded Be'eri. Emilly will play dual roles, Ingrid and Amitra, the Norwegian classic will be seen this September at The Hive NYC.

Emilly is also featured in the wonderfully funny web series 'Swipe To The Right' by Solace Productions. A spoof on the Tinder dating app.
Here she is as, Doreen~~~~Enjoy 'Swipe To the Right'

Awesome, right!!  I see from that wonderful segment that Emilly has what it takes to make any part 'real', she has access to herself.

As a songstress she sings and with dances with the band DD Dagger, in the Video 'Brooklyn Girls'
DD Dagger is a band based in Austin, Texas. Emily will be doing some vocals on their new album.

As a writer she has co written a play that will be in production this fall.

          >>Emilly is from Yafo, Tel Aviv, Israel, and she studied at, Studioact Yoram Levinstien.

Emilly is a welcome addition to TheHiveNYC, a nonprofit community of Indie Creators in Brooklyn.
She will indeed be a creative asset and help to establish The Hive, as an avant-garde arts community.

So to my readers:: be on the lookout~~Emilly Ben Ami

Welcome to NYC Emilly, looking forward to watching your career here in the USA flourish.

Yula Beeri:
 ......The Hive NYC
"Before sending you the "official" letter with the "big" words,
I wanted to explain, that The Hive started from a group of artist (at the time, mainly musicians) that saw a great need for some sort of place, where we can develop projects and help others develop their project.
We saw that there are so many people in our immediate community, with sincere visions, and without the means or support to make their dreams reality.

It's true that there are many ART organizations, but none of them really gave the time of day to these individuals.
... just  the process of applying for space or guidance,  is sooo discouraging, that very deserving folks, don't even get to the place where they are being considered...

So we said to ourselves, that if we can't get outside help, we will do it ourselves, provide space, equipment and most important develop an encouraging community to allow this art to flourish".

StreetcredMusic...Pete Carma...My 2cents Part IV, "It's My Band"

The story you are about to read is true. The names were change to protect the guilty.

I really don't know how many young artists I have seen in person, met at other peoples shows, chatted with on social media, or how many have contacted me...I have 200 on my FB, but there are many I did not 'friend', so there are hundreds. Just about all of them women, and perhaps this article will tell you why.

I have a great overview of the young music scene in New York City...because I'm totally nonprofit, not beholding to any company, not worried about keeping my job, and at the same time, I have the ability to help people. So I try.

One of the things I see is there are many great songwriters out there. BUT, there are a special few who hit the jackpot with almost every tune they write..( like really only 2).

So, me, being a stupid person, who thinks that some of these people would like to make their bands more popular, made a couple of suggestions, to a couple of 'band leaders' recently, and I made them face to face, because I'm ole school and like to look people in the eye and hear their voice, cause that's the way humans have evolved....and it would also get their reaction in real time.

Band leader number one, a woman let's call her Ms. BB. I said::I know someone who has written at least half a dozen tunes that would fit your band to a 'T'. Sooooo, I asked her if she would be interested in doing them, and the writer was OK with this. Ms. BB's reply was:
"Pete, I have written dozens of songs, that I plan on doing in the future, but thanks anyway"
She never even asked who or gave a listen to the tunes.....her loss.

The second band 'leader' and I use that term 'leader' loosely....again looking HIM dead in the eye, let's call him, no, no name for him, I said:: why don't you do one of, insert name here, songs...BTW the songs would fit his, OK I'll call it a band... He said almost before I finished asking the question..
"because this is my band".

if ur band is stagnant DO SOMETHING!

My point...neither of these bands have come close to breaking out, they are still playing the same venues they played for the last three years, they have not had a run on their albums, and still they refuse to include anything new from the outside, at no cost!

It's a business man, it's not a singles tournament. If you were selling umbrellas and someone offered you umbrellas at no cost, and you refused...what? Put your EGO aside for a second.
One musician, a Zombie, once actually said to me "and what if the song becomes a hit, then they will want a piece"  ...well yeah you dumb MoFo...and it will be your first fuckin HIT!

So what I see is, you musicians out there are totally willing to give your hard earned $$$$ to a producer, a mixer, a booking agent, a tour arranger, and anyone else who sells you what looks like an easy path...but you won't take food and water, songs, the life's blood of your industry...........
.....please splain that to me Lucy.

...at your next gig, look around, there will be at least 5 or 6 other bands playing that venue that night, multiply that by the number of venues in New York City, times that by 365 and that's your competition. So to not look at new material is not only bad business, but at best being naive or at worst egomaniacal.

The moral of this little ode: I have some amazing writers who are open to anyone using their work..If interested, I'm here, so are they.

That's My 2cents, Part IV::   here is My 2cents,  Parts 1,2,3.
