Greta Panettieri, speaks about her new album, 'Under Control'

 ~I asked Greta Panettieri to send me a few words about her new album, 'Under Control'.
Now you can see why I think she is not only one of the best vocalists on the planet, but one of the best beings::

"As you know it's been a busy year I've been on the road a lot, which is fantastic, and I'm always busy trying to make some change to pay the bills, and to find ways to keep on doing what I love: ...music..ing…

  Is not easy to talk about one's own music and that's why I'm not gonna do it, I will instead talk about all the incredible people that contributed making this album .

 Of course I have to mention LARRY WILLIAMS, it's almost impossible to believe that such a musician, such a producer was on board with us. He followed every music step we took and advised since day one, in such a  professional and respectful way, never asked to change a note ( like most producers do just to get a piece of publishing) but instead caring for details and helping us find the best ways in the infinite ways of music, as my  friend Tony Formichella would say. The best present for Larry.. it's been his tenor solo on our song 'My Angel', when Andrea received the file from Las Angeles (it was around 4:30 AM here) he spent maybe four hours listening to it,  hundreds of times with the most stupid happy face…

And again Larry did it all for the love of the music, and ….I guess cause he likes us, there aren't enough words to thank him.
 

Andrea Sammartino, the Maestro 

The other person we really need to talk about is Andrea Sammartino, who is my partner in music and life. He really is the father of this album, he arranged, wrote, did and re did, played and replayed every single note of this record >assembled a perfect pre-production with midi instruments and than went and replaced it all with real instruments. He did the most amazing job, sometimes I think he's crazy, but when we reach results that most people achieve going to the best studios, using the best instruments and paying lots of money, with just a laptop and three years in front of the above mentioned device, I must think twice and say, yes,  he's crazy but he's also a crazy persevering  M.F. and that's one of the reasons why I love him so

 >Curtis King Jr,  who recorder our duet on 'Lover', in NYC while on a two days break from his world tour with Bruce Springsteen, my old friend Daniele Mencarelli (we used to play in bands together when we were in high school) and he's now one of the best bass players around, Fabio Capone (Andrea's 'compare') who played bass on 'Under Control', Stefano Tamborrino, Armando Sciommeri,  J.J Avatar Telly on drums, Piero Masciarelli Marco Acquarelli, Nicola Costa on guitars, Neney Santos on percussion , Paolo Innarella on flutes, the young new friends that played strings, in one day, and coming from classical music, having to 'first sight' some crazy funky string arrangements, Michele Tremamunno, Andrea Rellini Joele e Lara Micelli.

Jennie Booth, my too far away sister, who wrote two beautiful lyrics > for this record: 'Can I Say it In A Kiss'  and 'Guessing and Surmising'.

 My photographer friends: Max Pelagatti, who took the cover picture and Paolo Callipari who is at almost every show I do, and makes me feel and look like a 'Diva'

Jasmin Cacciola my eccentric friend always ready to give you ideas and give you the right skirt or blouse you couldn't find anywhere, she's also working on a big surprise for all of us…( I have to keep it secret for now !…)

Of course my whole family, they are so supportive and loving, I know how lucky I am to have them, including my adorable nieces Eva e Viola that I love more than anything else!

Gisella Ianiri who is now editing the video she envisioned with me chatting at the beach in Santa .Marinella and that she ended up realizing, directing, producing and editing etc for one of the album songs…actually, I got to run to her house in a minute.

The Girls on Pete's Blog, Part V, Eleanor Dubinsky

In the last couple of months, once when I was in New York City, and just twice this last week, three of the wonderful women I write about on this blog have been identified as 'the girl on Pete's blog'.

The best one was when I walked in to a club with Clara Lofaro, and the bartender said Hi Pete, and she looked at CLo and said "you look familiar, are you that girl on Pete's blog".

I should be happy about that but I'm not. Sure it's great that more and more people are reading the blog, but I want them to support these wonderful artists, and to do that they need their names!

So this will be a series of pieces to make sure their names get our there.

 "It's been an international few months! In August I played in the St. Barth Summer Sessions Festival on the island of St. Barth. It was an amazing experience and resulted in new projects, including recording new material with Grammy award winning engineer/producer Fernando Lodeiro (coming soon!). I am also performing and recording with the drums/sax groove duo Pink Fabric. 
I worked with Pablo Eluchans, the drummer, in St. Barth. Ted Hadges is on sax. We play an NYC's Nublu, this Sunday, 10/27, at 9 pm and have a new record coming out in the next month. 

I just returned from Portugal, where I performed at Galeria De Paris in Porto and taped a house concert, TV series, hosted by musician Pierre Aderne in his apartment, in Lisbon. 
Gorgeous country, incredible hospitality and people. I am considering doing a tour there in the spring. 

I'm lucky to be playing a benefit concert hosted by a Puerto Rican organization in Philadelphia on November 2d, and that also includes a pending show in Boston with pianist Josh Fobare, and I'll travel to Ontario, Canada, to collaborate with women from around the world for an International Women's Day Concert, on March 8th.

StreetcredMusic:: Support Indie Artists...with a 'like'

In today's corporate world, the twenty something year old bean counters rely on databases, followers and 'likes' in music, as they do in all aspects of where they put their support to promote or sell something. Sad but true, talent, lyric content, personality are all removed, and it comes down to selling merchandise.

That's why they refuse to let an Indie who is talented, and makes music that is just as good or better than what they want to 'force feed' us in the door....They have their select few who they know can sell shit, and it's easy and less costly for them to just continuously push them at us.

Soooo~~here's what we can do, 'like' the Dickens out of all the Indies we like. (no pun intended).

Greta, on coming back to New York City:

Is it really 2 years?
...no it's been more, wait it's got to be less...
when did you get in town?
hmmm a week ago , no a month I saw so many people and did so many things it's got to be more....

Well yeah NYC would do that to you,  easily!
I have been away for the past 2 years and believe me between the good and the bad they were pretty long years.
 I moved 3 times traveled around, recorded albums , played great festivals or shitty gigs, put bands together, met new friends and I now have..well.. I have cats and dogs, but the second I stepped out of the airport (you can't consider yourself here until you make it through customs..) I was home and the time gap between now and 2 years ago got filled up in a blink.

 Besides my rusty English and some more wrinkles around my eyes an maybe a couple extra super fancy expensive delis in the neighborhood, NYC was holding it all for me to find it all exactly where I left it. Isn't it wonderful? I bet this city does the same for all of us 'New Yorkers of heart' .
