Is it really 2 years?
...no it's been more, wait it's got to be less...
when did you get in town?
hmmm a week ago , no a month I saw so many people and did so many things it's got to be more....

Well yeah NYC would do that to you,  easily!
I have been away for the past 2 years and believe me between the good and the bad they were pretty long years.
 I moved 3 times traveled around, recorded albums , played great festivals or shitty gigs, put bands together, met new friends and I now have..well.. I have cats and dogs, but the second I stepped out of the airport (you can't consider yourself here until you make it through customs..) I was home and the time gap between now and 2 years ago got filled up in a blink.

 Besides my rusty English and some more wrinkles around my eyes an maybe a couple extra super fancy expensive delis in the neighborhood, NYC was holding it all for me to find it all exactly where I left it. Isn't it wonderful? I bet this city does the same for all of us 'New Yorkers of heart' .

Rosita Kess, New CD--F.L.O.Y.D.

I'm really not fond of writing about Rosita Kess. It's like someone says, write a story about the world.
Where do you start? What do you include? What do you leave out? No matter where you start or finish you never know if you can make the reader aware of all the good, and the talent.

(...but really this is soooo koooool, because I get to listen to and write the first review of so many great Indie Artist...thank you all for your trust....)

Her new CD is, F.L.O.Y.D. (For Love Of Your Desire) ... this is her follow up album to 'Nothern Sky'.

It took me a few days to listen to all eleven tunes on the CD, Why?....cause I kept hitting 'replay'.

Especially the first cut, Just Because Of You, great tune!
It captures all the things I like about Rosita's music. Smooth melodic line, great lyrics, with a sexy European interpretation.She has a way of making not only your senses awake, but you really feel something physical when you hear her.

Mud and Gold, is a heavy bottom, kick 'em in the chest kinda blues tune. I think I hear Rosita's New Orleans background. It's as you will find on both of her CD's a change of pace done without effort, again, it just shows her diversity, while performing all the genre with the utmost respect.

Quero Ser Feliz, (I Want To Be Happy), may turn out to be your favorite of the eleven tunes, an upbeat Brazilian, Samba, be happy rhythm, below the silky voice of Rosita. It truly will make you...
"Be Happy"....

This work is wonderful, done by an artist who seeks perfection, surrounded by some of the world best musicians...

The Girls on Pete's Blog, Part lll, Erin Pellnat.

In the last couple of weeks, once when I was in New York City, and just twice this last week, three of the wonderful women I write about on this blog have been identified as 'the girl on Pete's blog'.

The best one was when I walked in to a club with Clara Lofaro, and the bartender said Hi Pete, and she looked at CLo and said "you look familiar, are you that girl on Pete's blog".

I should be happy about that but I'm not. Sure it's great that more and more people are reading the blog, but I want them to support these wonderful artists, and to do that they need their names!

So this will be a series of pieces to make sure their names get our there. 

Part Three, ERIN PELLNAT

Erin Pellnat, lead singer for 'Jean Fight'

  I first saw Erin about two and a half years ago. She was a back up singer for a band that broke up shortly after I saw them. The night I saw her I did not meet her, I had to run to another show. But I got her name from a band member. I knew she had talent and ENERGY!

When I contacted her months later she said she was getting a band together, but they never got off the ground. I asked her to be in a show and she admitted to me the band was not ready, a class move, on her part.

Well long story short, she has since graduated CCNY & SUNY...jazz vocal and performance.
(the band she fronts now 'Jean Fight', is not jazz)

She managed a great Pizza/Wings joint in NYC to put herself through school. I was there, great wings!

As mentioned above she is lead singer for 'Jean Fight' and also part of the Bushwick Gospel Singers.
Got her name...Erin Pellnat!...don't forget it!

She has become a friend and 'Jean fight' will be part of a big show I'm putting together in NYC this fall.

Here's a video we put together in about 20 minutes on a freezing cold NYC day last winter.
I just wanted to get something from her and her 'accompanist'  who also did a video for me that day!!

Johnnie and Joe, 'Over The Mountain'

Johnnie Louise Richardson was born in Alabama. Joe Rivers in South Carolina.

I was born in the South Bronx, Washington Avenue to be exact. In 1957 Johnnie and Joe lived in the South Bronx too. So when they got booked on one of the ground breaking 'Rock 'n Roll' shows at the Paramount Theatre the race began. The race for us kids to round up enough 'deposit bottles' to return to the store to get the 2cent return one got for returning the glass bottles of that era. Tickets were $2 and you needed twenty cents to get there, ten cents each way on the 3d Avenue EL.

Notice I said 'Rock 'n Roll' because that was what it was, pure. Today anything with a guitar and loud qualifies.

We hustled down to the Paramount, sister theater of the theater of the same name in Brooklyn. It was 43d Street and Broadway. We waited about an hour outside cause all seats were first come first serve.

That was 56 years ago, and I have never to this day been more excited about seeing any performance.
I searched for clips from something from them in that time, but it seems nothing exists.

So here's a look at them 45 years later, just as great, and brings me back to a simpler life in Da Bronx.

Lawra, New CD~Origine~~(Laura Falcinelli)

 This wonderful new CD, 'Origine', from Lawra has me hooked!
...I have been a fan of hers for about six months, ever since I checked out her music online. 
Her style, her range, her smoothness with word....and then I found out more.

 Lawra

For instance her philosophy ~ "Dancing and singing with:: The heart in Italy, the head in Europe and the mind in Africa."

Lawra has taken some African rhythms and melodic lines, and injected them with some of her creativity, and fused them with some Rock, Funk, and in her classy style, just lifted them to a totally new sound full of love for the genre.

Lawra:: "I always had a deep attraction toward rhythm and African music. Since I was a kid, I looked for it around the world feeling it in my soul like an older sister and a seducing goddess."

'Afrikan Eyes'.."what are you going to do alone, are you really gonna find a home-OH-Africa."

...Tells of Lawra's yearning to find the genesis of the music. ~~the mind in Africa~~

The opening tune, 'Welcome To My Country'...Lawra let's it all fly. She takes us to the beat, the 'heavy bottom' of the Afro music that makes you just want to move and think happy thoughts of LOVE!

'Ding Dong Song' ...here Lawra brings that beat and 'heavy bottom' into the 21st Century, to a somewhat Rap vocal, and complicates it to a funk!!!

....and yes there is a Booty song..."Afro Booty'...and it does what it is suppose to...just jamm, and get everybody on the floor, spreading LOVE!

For years, it has been my hiding place. Sometimes, I was looking for a private and inaccessible space where I could be with myself. I found it in that intimate world where music takes you and knows how to keep you company. Other times I was afraid, but music always wins and takes you back home. This is my way to celebrate music and say thank you.
